Is your New Year’s resolution to change your life in 2022?
If so, you are one of the millions of people around the world who have set this goal. Unfortunately, most give up their quest to achieve their goals in just a few months. If you are serious about designing your NEW YOU in 2022, you do not want this to happen. So, how do you ensure you meet your New Year’s goal 2022?

My personal experience. Due to the ongoing pandemic and the multiple lockdowns that we had last year in the Netherlands, my physical conditions got dramatically deteriorated in 2020; leading to situations where my clothes would no longer fit. I had gained weight and started wondering what I could do to become fitter again.
In summer 2021, when I saw one of my pictures totally out of shape, I told myself, this is enough and I had to change.
Decision. You see, if you were unhappy with certain things about yourself in 2021 and you really don’t want these things to happen in 2022, then the only thing to do would be to make a decision and to choose to do things differently in 2022.
TomTom watches. A few years ago, I have purchased a TomTom sports watch to monitor my physical condition. My TomTom watch keeps sending me notifications like: “IF YOU RUN ONCE IN A WHILE FOR 10 MINUTES, YOU COULD LOWER YOUR FITNESS AGE ” I became very curious about that Fitness Age thing as I have never heard about before.
I was shocked to discover that according to my TomTom Watch, my Fitness Age was 64 years old while my actual age is 49 years old.
Panic and Disappointment: After discovering my Fitness Age, I was in a panic asked myself what I could do to improve my Fitness Age. Doing nothing was not an option so I then decided to challenge myself.
How to start. I had decided to challenge myself and started walking 5 kilometers every day from Monday to Friday.
I kept walking for a few weeks until my tempo become boring; that was the moment that I have decided to increase my walking speed by running in intervals.
I was amazed about my running ability knowing that I only have 30% mobility on my right hip after surgery 2 decades ago; the doctors at the hospital told me that I would never be able to run again.
Results. A few weeks after doing the same exercises, I noticed that my physical conditions kept getting better, and surprisingly, I Fitness Age started to drop every week.
Consistency. What I have learned with my personal experience is that Consistency to the key for every sustainable changing program. After 16 weeks of running 7 kilometers every morning, my Fitness Age has dropped from 64 Years Old to 39 Years old now. I am extremely proud of myself and I now know that no success can be achieved overnight.
You have to be ready to work hard in order to achieve your goals. Here are the ingredients that are needed: Goals setting, Determination, Focus, Concentration, Sacrifices, offers, etc.
Here is what you have to do to Change Your Life in 2022
For many, simply saying “I want to change my life in 2022,” isn’t enough. Many peoples lead hectic lives, so it is easy to forget. Instead, write down your resolution. Not only that, write it down many times and place it in different locations. Consider your weaknesses. Do you head to the cookie jar in the middle of the night or do you head to the refrigerator when stressed out? Put small sticky notes reminding you of your New Year’s resolution. That second thought can prevent you from overeating or eating unhealthy foods.
Give it time. It is important to remember the phrase “New Year.” You are making the resolution to change your life, but for the entire year. This is an important fact that many seem to forget. Change takes time. The more you change, the more time you will spend shedding extra things. For that reason, give it time. Don’t expect to change in one month. Unless you opt for drastic change, it will not happen. Achieving your New Year’s resolution isn’t a race, so don’t make it one.
As previously stated, changing your life is not something that can be achieved overnight or even in a month. Unfortunately, this is not what most want to hear. If you are for instance obese, it can literally take you all year to slim down. During that time, you will experience many ups and downs. One week you may lose 5 kilos and the next you may gain 2. Despite the frustration, don’t give up. If you want to achieve your New Year’s resolution weight loss goal, you need to stay focused and on task, no matter how hard it is.
Have a friend help. Many individuals make New Year’s resolutions. As previously stated, weight loss is a common one. If you know of someone, like a close friend or family member, who also has the same resolution, rely on them for help. Start taking daily walks or jogs together. If your weakness is buying unhealthy foods at the grocery store, go shopping with your weight loss buddy. Those who have a strong support system are more likely to achieve their weight loss goal and turn their New Year’s resolution into a reality.
Create mini-goals. New Year’s resolutions are all about taking one big thing in your life and changing it. Your goal is to change your life in 2022, but it isn’t as simple as saying “I want to change my life.” You need to create mini-goals for yourself. The best approach to take is to start with the month of January. For week one, start exercising. For week two, start buying healthy foods at the store. For week three, start eating healthy. When you tackle weight loss one step at a time, you are more likely to achieve your goal.
Try again. Many people are unable to meet their New Year’s resolutions. In fact, some stop trying after only a month or two. If that happens, remember that it is possible to start from scratch again. A New Year’s resolution isn’t a race; you have all year to meet your life-changing goal. So, even if it involves starting again in July, you can still meet your New Year’s goal.
In short, life-changing is one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions, but it is also the one that most individuals give up on. By creating mini-goals, enlisting the help of a friend, giving it time, and not giving up, your New Year’s resolution will no longer be just a goal, but a reality.
